Exhibition preview: Russia comes to Brooklyn through Simon Robert's photos

If you're in the New York area anytime from late October through to Christmas, check out a new gallery set up by two aquaintances, Debra Klomp and Darren Ching, whose first show features another friend, Simon Roberts, with his Motherland series from Russia.

He and his wife spent roughly a year travelling from east to west in search of the true spirit of Russian Motherland, cutting their trip slightly short after Sarah became pregnant.

This work has been widely exhibited in Europe (and beyond), and came out as a book published by Chris Boot Ltd earlier this year — but this is the first chance for you to see the prints in the U.S.

So much has been written about Motherland (Simon should give lessons on how to market your work), that I'll just direct you here and here and here rather than make any comment myself, other than to recommend you check it out if you can.

Simon will be in NY on 1 November to give a talk at the Brooklyn-based gallery. Call (00 1) 648 508 0509 for details.

Nice review. I found this post after Googling for more information on this exhibit after reading a blurb about it in The New Yorker magazine.

I'm going to check it out tomorrow.

FYI: The link you have to the gallery is misspelled, which is why it did not appear live to you.

The correct link is:
